[07 May 2006|09:56pm] A testament to how stupid I am: Internet wasn't working when I got back home from hanging out with a furry (OMG) and I was frankly confused. So I go and check the modem, thinking someone saw lightening from the earlier storm and turned it off. Well the modem was on. Except something was wrong. There are three lights on my DSL modem. POWER READY LINK The LINK light wasn't on. So I check the phone connection. Nothing. Check the splitter connection. Nothing. Replace the line. Nothing. Turning it on and off. Nothing. In fact, that LINK light never even blinked. But by god the READY light was flashing on and off like if it didn't, it'd be the end of the world. It never occured to me to check the router. Which was unplugged (by the fucking cat no less). You see, LINK didn't mean a link to the phone company like I thought it did. LINK meant to the router. READY was the phone company. After finding this out from my mother (and after my joking father got her going on a tirade like she always does mentioning the phone bill) I remembered that I knew that, because with our old router you had to turn on the modem first before the routher and let the READY light stop blinking before the LINK light even came on.
